For a guy who hasn't written many comics, Mr Pichetshote does pretty well for himself here. Starts off a little rough, with the interior monologs being a bit heavy-handed, but the concept is solid and keeps you going and then it's smooth sailing. The characters build nicely. Tricky topics (what's PC? Are muslims dangerous or not?) elevate it as a horror story. These cultural issues give us a landscape for the story (which is a lot better than your "4 average middle class teens in a haunted house" thaing) and offers us a chance to examine our own feelings on difficult issues through the characters' struggles. Still scaring you is the priority and politics better not get in the way!
Aaron Cambell does a VERY nice job with the art. I wasn't familiar with his work previously (I think he's fairly new) but he's got chops! Clear distinctive people, crazyass monsters and VERY moody settings. Feels fresh and exciting.

If you want to read something both horrific and intelligent, INFIDEL transcends the genre. This is my favorite graphic novel of the past 3-4 years. Hopefully, someone in Hollywood snatches it up and adapts it for the screen.
After her future mother-in-law’s apartment building is bombed by a man labeled a terrorist, Aisha moves into the building in hopes of providing emotional support. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to provide support, when it’s clear that Aisha’s mother in law, Leslie, is struggling to come to terms with the fact that his son is engaged to a Muslim. On top of that, Aisha is having nightmares. When those nightmares start to manifest in real life, it quickly becomes obvious that her new home is haunted.

Infidel is a fantastic take on the classic haunted house story, modernized for the current era. The artwork, provided by Aaron Campbell, is deliciously creepy, and really draws you in to the more horrifying moments. By keeping the emphasis on the characters and scary bits, Pornsak Pichetshote managed to tell a story about the dangers and pervasiveness of racism without seeming heavy handed. The storyline has quite a few twists in it for a five-issue arc, and I found myself flying through the pages.

Horror is admittedly not a regular part of my reading diet, but comics like Infidel make me want to dig into the genre more. I highly recommend this one.

Ok, so just before dinner I read this really epic horror gem Infidel, written by Pornsak Pichetshote with lovely moody art by Aaron Campbell, published by Image Comics, and yeah this book lives up to all it's hype, it a really really well put together horror allegory about some real hot button issues in modern society, where this book shines in it's ability to tell and emote both sides of the argument, in a reasonable and civil way, it's not a book that preaches at you, it's a book that says it understands you, and begs you to understand it, I think that amazing, well done Pornsak Pichetshote, I hope to see more amazing work from you in the future!
